What is Dye Sublimation Printing?

Dye Sublimation is the application of applying print into the fabric rather than on top of the fabric. It can be performed both on cut panels and non-cut fabric. Once the print is applied, sewing starts to finalize the process of production. That’s exactly what allows for the best possible print coverage, covering an entire garment in print.

Cut and Sew paired with Dye Sublimation is one of the fastest growing methods of print application to the fabric. Combined with sublimation, it can be used for putting together vibrant prints covering your garment in places that otherwise would just not be possible whatsoever.

Facts about sublimation printing

  • Invented from all the other techniques like the thermal printing invented in the 1970s, sublimation technique is the modern one.

  • In types and complexities of the drawings and logo printing of the uniform and the sportswear, there are no barriers.

  • Infusing the print on the respective fabric is what this method helps in.

  • The technique is expensive and that adds a drawback to the technique as there are various benefits and countable features.

On suitable surfaces, sublimation printing uses a heat sensitive sublimation dye to print graphics. In order to print graphics and texts, a heat press is used on the dye-sub transfer and the suitable printing surface.

The image has been transferred onto the surface at this point. By touching the surface of the sublimatable item, the image has become a part of the surface.

Sublimatable Surfaces

On polyester, polymer, or polymer-coated item, sublimation is always performed. Integrating itself into the fabric, the sublimation dye penetrates the fibers. Allowing for the sublimation dye to enter the materials, these types of materials contain pores.

Converting the solid dyes directly into gas, the high temperature of the heat press performs this function. Without the solid dues ever becoming liquid, the heat press is hot enough to do this.

Natural Fibers & Non-coated materials

On natural materials such as 100% cotton, inkjet sublimation cannot be performed. It requires pores in order to enter a printing surface for the sublimated dyes which have become gas.

The dyes will just sit on top of the fabric without these pores. These materials are not suitable for sublimation printing as natural fibers and non-coated materials do not have pores.

Cotton t-shirts with micro-weaves of polyester on the outside, colored mesh ball caps with polyester front, mouse pads, jackets, beverage insulators, ceramic plates, mugs and tiles are some commonly used surfaces.

White colored materials

For inkjet sublimation textile printing white-colored materials are most commonly used surfaces and are most preferred as the ink in the inkjet dyes is transparent when they are sublimated.

To provide proper contrast to show up, the dyes require a background. Ideal contrast and enhancing colors are provided through white backgrounds.

Cut & Sew is the preferred method for the following types of sublimated garments:

  • fully covered and custom sublimated T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies

  • leggings and sublimation Yoga pants

  • sublimated dresses

  • beach shorts and swimwear

  • sublimated jerseys (in fact all cycling jerseys are done using these methods

  • jackets

  • Many, many more…

Sublimation printing solution for sportswear

Towards fitness and sports activities, the young generation is very much inclined. People prefer to play the respective sports in the proper sportswear as they are interested in sports activities.

According to the requirement of sports, the sportswear is made up of polyester fabric can be sublimated. To transfer a colored graphic on to the polyester fabric, the sublimation process is used by the sublimation printing companies.

Features of Sublimated clothing

In the markets worldwide, the sublimation sportswear and sublimation uniforms are widely demanded. They are usually vibrant, glossy, and scratch resistant when it comes to sublimation garments.

For various promotional clothing as well as products, these features have also made the sublimation printing ideal. For the sports lovers, sublimation clothing printing is one of the very popular gifts.

Excellent quality of all-over dye sublimation inks, sublimation printing paper, hot press and sublimation printer Canada is all that is required for this t-shirt printing technique.
